South Philly is filled with many great places to buy food, shop and dine. It's a melting pot filled with lots of things to indulge. On a chilly day, what would you like to enjoy? I know one thing I certainly love, it's a nice warm cup of hot chocolate! I had the pleasure of attending an exclusive hot chocolate and cannoli tasting here. They are located at 1205 South 9th Street Philadelphia, PA 19147 (next door to Gino's Cheesesteaks). They have been open for business two years and they provide authentic Italian pastries. They serve fresh hot chocolate, cannoli's and gelato. A small group of local influencers and bloggers had the chance to participate. We were able to go behind the scenes and go into their kitchen. This is where the magic happens.
The first thing shown to us were the cannoli. Their cannoli shells are imported at least once a week from Sicily. Once they arrive, they are dipped in chocolate which is made in house. The shell flavors were pistachio, hazelnut, white chocolate, dark chocolate, peanut with chocolate, almond with chocolate and a white chocolate with strawberry drizzle. After selecting your shell, you can pick the ricotta filling. Flavors to chose from were a traditional sweet ricotta, pistachio ricotta, tiramisu ricotta and hazelnut ricotta. The fillings are also made in house, daily. My personal favorite was the traditional sweet filling which also had a little bit of chocolate chips mixed in.
Next, we previewed the hot chocolate. There's an awesome chocolate bar with many chocolate barks to chose from. The barks are made in house. A nice variety of flavors were available (milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, peanut butter, Nutella, white chocolate peppermint, spicy chocolate, Cinnabon, pumpkin spice, caramel delight and strawberry). You can mix and match flavors to create your own special blend. I thought that was pretty cool. The barks are placed in a large cup and the milk is poured in. It's mixed up, blended and you have a perfect cup of fresh creamy hot chocolate!
